Stichting Huurteams Nijmegen was founded on January 28, 2009, with the aim of assisting tenants with excessive rents, all-in rents, maintenance problems or high service costs. Huurteams Nijmegen visits rental properties to determine the maximum allowable rent on the basis of the property rating system. If the tenant pays too much, Huurteams Nijmegen assists him or her in the contact with the landlord. If necessary, proceedings are started with the Rent Commission on behalf of the tenant.
Huurteams Nijmegen also provides legal advice. Our ambition for the period 2023-2026 is laid down in our policy plan. This can be found under downloads; (beleidsplan).
Confronting the landlord is never pleasant for tenants because of their dependent position. Also, many tenants are not well versed in rental (Dutch) law. For these reasons, excessive rents and other abuses are often not addressed. Thanks to its legal expertise, Huurteams Nijmegen operates as a professional mediator between tenant and landlord so that problems are handled smoothly. In addition, service charge and maintenance cases require so much legal expertise that many tenants would not be able to pursue them without the assistance of Huurteams Nijmegen.
Municipal subsidy, enables Huurteams Nijmegen to do its work. This makes it possible to employ six part-time employees, namely a director/manager and four legal assistants. They are supported by a team of volunteers consisting of legal advisors who are specially trained for this work. The organization is supported by a voluntary board (3 members) and an advisory board (2 members). Huurteams Foundation is ANBI registered. Donations are welcome and tax deductible.
